World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly

This Sunday is World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. It was instituted by Pope Francis in 2021 for the 4th Sunday in July, close to the Feast of Ss Joachim and Anne (26 July), Jesus’ grandparents. The 2024 theme is Do not cast me off in my old age (Ps 71:9). Elderly people can experience loneliness due to physical or mental decline or alienation from family and friends. We share the responsibility to look after them. We thank God for grandparents and pray that they and all elderly people will enjoy good health, peace, fulfilment and care.

Ash Wednesday (like Good Friday) is a  day of fasting and abstinence (no meat) . Catholics  18 – 59 are bound to fast . Catholics  older than 13 are bound to abstain .

Christmas Day – Wednesday 25 December: 7am, 8.15am (Italian), 9.30am, 11am & 6.30pm (Polish). No 5pm English Mass.
