Request from Archbishop Fisher

Archbishop Fisher asks Sydney Catholics to contact Upper House members of NSW Parliament to request that they support the current bill to restore the ability of faith-based aged care facilities to opt out of euthanasia. The current law requires our aged care homes to allow voluntary assist-ed dying (VAD) even though it is against the ethos of compassionate care on which the facilities are founded. VAD supporters claim that the bill removes choice from aged care residents. But many people choose faith-based aged care because we respect every human life until natural death. Our vulnerable elderly deserve the choice to live out their lives in a safe place where they know that euthanasia is not practiced. Many do not have a voice.
