World Day of the Poor — 16 November

This Sunday marks the 9th World Day of the Poor. It was established by Pope Francis in 2016 on the Sunday before the Solemnity of Christ the King to mark the end of the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy. It reminds the world in general and the Catholic faithful in particular of our responsibility to the acknowledge and serve the poor among us. This Jubilee Year of Hope theme is You are my Hope (Ps 71:5), which identifies the poor not as objects for assistance but subjects who assist all faithful to be more authentic followers of Jesus Christ.
