Ordinary Time – Green is the go

Ordinary time refers to the liturgical periods outside the Seasons of Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter. It begins on the day after the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord and runs until Ash Wednesday, when Lent begins. It resumes on Monday after Pentecost Sunday and continues until the First Sunday of Advent. “Ordinary” does not mean it is less important than the Seasons. The name comes from the Latin ordinalis, meaning numbers in a series – how the days and weeks are named, e.g. 2nd Sunday of Ordinary Time this weekend.
