2nd Rite of Reconciliation, communal celebration—1 Apr

The Sacrament of Reconciliation (Rite 2) will be held at 7.30pm on Wednesday, 1 April, during Holy Week. The communal nature of Rite 2 enables us to support one other in and give witness to our shared belief in and need for God’s mercy and forgiveness. Consequently, we prepare for the Sacrament and give thanks after it together, while individually confessing our sins to one of the priests and receiving penance and absolution from him. To complete the Rite in reasonable time while not rushing it, penitents must be concise in expressing their sins to the priest. Dialogues more common in Rite 1 (individual preparation, confession, penance and absolution) are inappropriate for Rite 2. Opportunities to celebrate Rite 1 will be available at other times as in the past.
