Mass of the Lord’s Resurrection—Easter Vigil 7pm (4 April)

The Easter Vigil has 4 parts.

  1. The Ceremony of Light includes blessing of the Easter fire, lighting and procession of the Paschal Candle and proclamation of the Exsultet, an ancient hymn of praise.
  2. The Liturgy of the Word comprises Old Testament readings and responses, the Gloria, a text from St Paul’s Letter to the Romans, gospel and homily.
  3. Baptism Liturgy initiates the Elect (not Baptised) and Catechumens (baptised in another Christian tradition) into the Church. Worshippers re-new their baptism promises while holding a candle lit from the Paschal Candle.
  4. Liturgy of the Eucharist, with distribution of Communion.

Mass ends with a special Easter blessing and dismissal.
