Mass of the Lord’s Resurrection—Easter Vigil 7pm (4 April)
The Easter Vigil has 4 parts.
- The Ceremony of Light includes blessing of the Easter fire, lighting and procession of the Paschal Candle and proclamation of the Exsultet, an ancient hymn of praise.
- The Liturgy of the Word comprises Old Testament readings and responses, the Gloria, a text from St Paul’s Letter to the Romans, gospel and homily.
- Baptism Liturgy initiates the Elect (not Baptised) and Catechumens (baptised in another Christian tradition) into the Church. Worshippers re-new their baptism promises while holding a candle lit from the Paschal Candle.
- Liturgy of the Eucharist, with distribution of Communion.
Mass ends with a special Easter blessing and dismissal.
